Kent Road   SOLD

Here is this weeks painting which has taken me about 12 hours in total to paint. It is larger than most of the work I have done over the last month at 40x 50cm. This is because I was unable to paint in my normal place because the christmas tree stood there in the window. All over the Xmas period I painted smaller pictures on a desk top easel. This was quicker to do but I really enjoyed painting this larger one in a few different sessions during the week. Snow scenes are a bit tricky as white oil paint takes longer to dry, which means you have to be careful not to smudge.
This is the only art I have managed to do this week as I seem to have been fairly busy. Last night I did something I have not done for 20 years. This was rollerskating which I did with my family and we had a hoot even though I did fall over once. Maybe I should do a skating scene?
Today I was pleased to get out running in the sunshine .The recent snow has made running very difficult, although I did try once,it was very hard and tiring to run in.
I have just sold both of last weeks paintings and was pleased at the price they made. I need some inspiration for this week now and a good bit of time to paint. There never seems enough hours in the day for me to do everything I need to do. Any way thank you for looking at my blog and should you wish to buy this painting which was only finished today you can follow the link provided. More art work to come soon!

A Day at the Races 2  SOLD

I hope you like this Painting which I have called a Day at the races 2,because I did a similar style painting a few weeks ago. It was sold to a person in Limerick, in Ireland and had created a lot of interest. This is why I decided to paint with a similar theme. I used a photo from a racing mag which actually had two women in it, but I substituted one for a man and I am pleased at how they look really and with the overall feel of the painting which took me about five hours.
I have painted two paintings this week and will perhaps share the other one later this week. The other one is a snow scene inspired by a lovely day in the snow I had with my family yesterday. I bought a couple of sledges and we took them to a hill near to my home and raced each other down resulting in much falling off, laughter and us returning home wet, bruised and having had a great load of fun.
I started working on the painting about 4.30pm yesterday and finished it today.
I saw some art work this week that I really liked and it was shown to me by a teacher I was working with. He is a Design and Technology Teacher who was trying to inspire a class of teenage children studying GCSE Engineering. He had with him a folder of his work from university many years ago. He is now 39. He explained to the young people that his work was drawn before the internet ever came to be and before any of the wonderful technical drawing programs that people have access to in this time."You must be really old sir",they said which made me feel ancient ,being even older. Anyway his drawing was very technically good and his designs very retro. Most of the work was in felt tip pen and I wish I could show it to you because I was blown away by his designs for simple objects in the home. The designs were something that one might put in a frame and call modern art and he was very humble about them. I got to thinking that so many people are artistically gifted and  like him not really sharing their art.
The other peice of work I have admired this week was an unfinished picture shared on facebook of a rabbit drawn in pen and ink. My Neice is working on it and has been for some time as it is greatly detailed. I look forward to seeing the finished article.
I watched a lovely programme about ART on BBC4 this week and it was all about the impressionist painters who lived and worked on the French Riviera in the late 1940s/1950s.The works of Mattise and Picasso are inspirational and they had such a lovely lifestyle in the sun.I dream of such a life style of sun mixed with a bit of painting and a lot of relaxing. But for now I will just have to dream on!
Thanks for looking at my blog, the paintings are selling well and if you do like this one you can buy it by following this link. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170976219535?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649

>                     SOLD
This is my most current painting, which I have spent most of today working on. I didn't think it would take as long as it did but there was quite a lot of detail. I called the painting Leon Park after a park that I played in as a child. The park was owned by Lord and Lady Leon who also owned Bletchley Park ,home of  the code breakers in the war.My mother and father met at Bletchley park when my Father was stationed there in the Royal Air Force. My Mum already worked there.
This painting is in oils and took about 6 hours. I have done a good bit of art this week as I went to my monthly art group. We are working all together on a water themed collage . We discussed this over a few glasses of wine and decided to work on figures that will go in the scene. I did a couple of swimmers using my water colour pencils and some gel pens. The others produced  similar figures and then we ran out of time and will put them together in a water scene at next months art group.
I also had a go at print making with a lino tile and cutting tool lent to me by a friend. The design came out quite well but I failed to realise that the lettering should go back to front in order to print a mirror image. there for I mucked it up but had fun trying anyway. In addition I did a pencil drawing of an eagle whilst doing some work with a young person who was also drawing wildlife. so quite a creative week really. If you like my painting you can follow this link to buy it. Thanks for looking at my work Carolyn

This is how the swimming theme at Art group is coming along. This month when we meet, we will link together the images with words arranged in waves. I love to look at the different styles of each Artists work. I am lucky to have very talented Artist friends and I look forward to meeting with them each month to work on art together.

Southside Street

 Southside Street  SOLD

This Painting is my latest work and is of a street in the Barbican in Plymouth. I used Photos and imagination where the characters are concerned. I really did see the camper van and Postal van and the buildings are real although from oposite sides of one street. It is painted in Oils and available on Ebay this week . Just Sold last weeks work which is encouraging as it went to someone who has purchased from me before. Its always good to have regular customers.
This week  I  have used my new sketch book at home and tryed out some watercolour pencils, which looked fab in W.H Smiths! They are however quite tricky to use. I found I had to layer my work drawing, then wetting, then more drawing. The colours aren't as vibrant as I would have liked ,but I will use them again. I drew a baboon, which is random I know, but I can't help what inspires me.
Also this week , I saw some work a friend did with lino cutting. He sings in a band and had incorperated the name of the band  into a great design which he will use to make prints. I  might have a go with that as I love exploring new materials.
On Thursday this week I shall go to the art group I meet with once a month where my friend has suggested a communal piece with a swimming theme. Intriguing! Not sure what that will be about but will share with you when I 've been.
Of course I have been busy socially. We have had dinner out with old friends ,dinner out with neigbours and a New years eve street party. All these things impact on my Art out put. You can not paint when  you are hung over now can you? I need some normality in my life to work. Another Party has sprung up for this Saturday however, so that will cut down any painting time.
Another passion of mine is running. I do this with my Husband ,well behind him actually as he' a lot faster that me. We go 3 times a week and I do see some things while out that I put in my paintings.
You can see that I am quite a busy person but I will aim to keep the work coming.
If you do like this work follow this link to buy it.
